5 new date night outfit ideas

If you're like me, it'll be time for a hot night out, you're so excited, and you go to get ready...only to realize you "have nothing to wear". In reality, there are probably tons of things in your closet, but you don't know where to start, so you just go with your fave 5 pieces over and over again. Well, here are some different things to try next date night!

1. Rock lace in a fun colour
I am obsessed with this two-tone burgundy dress. This colour is so hot for fall! For date night, you can wear this with just a bandeau or black bra if you're feeling daring, but if you want to class it up, just layer with a black cami. Or, you can even add a black turtleneck and thigh-high boots to feel extra bundled but still sexy. Lace is still very popular, and men love the subtle sexiness to it. Even adding a pop of lace in a subtle way such as on your blazer or a trim on your shirt can be just the little touch to kick up your look. Fall colours like plum, wine, olive green or brown can be fun takes on the trend as well.

2. Work your fave dark denim!
Do you ever contemplate what you're gonna wear for hours on end, only to go "Ah, screw it. I feel best in my broken-in skinnies". You know, dark denim is highly underrated. It can do amazing things to your sexy date outfit if you let it. Wearing a simple dark pair of jeans actually allows you to go big with your other pieces. Get out the curling iron and do a big updo, rock that bold fuschia lipstick, wear that multi-coloured statement necklace, don the show-stopping backless top - I don't mean all at once! - because your dark blue jeans aren't doing all the talking. Let's face it, if you feel hot in them already, they will make you exude the confidence needed to pull off any other bold piece. And they go with any pair of shoes.

3. Be edgy - as sublty as you want
Let's look at our girl RiRi: she's the queen of being edgy and looking sexy. She rocks zippered bustier tops with flirty polka dots, she loves to do bold colours and rock rips on her denim, and she loves S&M-inspired jewelry. I'm not saying go out dressed as a dominatrix or be as bold as Rihanna is, but try one or more of these to add youthful fun to your date outfit: Rock some high-waisted ripped denim shorts with a long sleeved top and tights, wear a neutral jeans-and-tank outfit with suspenders (either hanging down or worn), decorate your forearm with colourful chunky bangles mixed with spikey ones, or rock a cute cropped sweater in a bold colour and pair with menswear trousers. Voila, you're a sex kitten!

4. The "morning after" look
No, not the "walk of shame" look where your makeup looks like crap and you have dragon breath. I mean those mornings when you stayed at your man's place without a change of clothes and you gotta work some of his pieces on your sexy petite frame. I think that super feminine looks could always use a little touch of menswear inspiration. Try a long off-the-shoulder simple tunic with your fave shorts and nude pumps, add lace-up mid-calf boots with your summer floral print dress, or rock your man's long sleeved button-up with a skinny belt just under your bust, with some shorts or skinnies. Trust me, men also love the look of a woman wearing his things - it makes them think of waking up and seeing you in his boxers. Rawr.

5. Thigh-high socks
When I first got a pair, I was a little scared to rock them in different ways. Now, I realize they are so versatile and great to add to a hot look. Try wearing an all-black ensemble with socks in another colour (a turtleneck dress or black romper looks great), throw them on with a wrap dress with similar colours, or wear them with a classy A-line mini skirt and blouse. Can't go wrong. Just try and keep the socks in a neutral colour and without a pattern, because that can look juvenile.

Hope that helped some of you make up your mind! Happy date night.

New season, new essentials to shop for

Fall is already here, and it seems I've been on a permanent budget and unable to buy a new season's wardrobe. No matter, because I'm being frugal and thinking every purchase over very carefully. I've narrowed down my list of essential fall items to buy. *Ahem*, drumroll please...

A blouse with cutout sleeves
I've been seeing more and more of these. A gal can never have enough feminine blouses, and it doesn't hurt to get one like this that's more unique and stands out from your other ones. I really want one in teal!

Floor-grazing bell bottom jeans
Yes, January Jones! This is a great ode to the '70s! I want some of these for fall to pair with my endless collection of sky-high pumps. And the blouse mentioned above.

Long, over-the-shoulder sweater
We all have our days when we wanna be comfy. But we also want to keep up appearances, and this fall staple can do both. Pair it with your fave skinnies, jeggings, or leggings, and add some accessories. Done and done!

Vest
I'm really diggin' vests. Pleather (I don't wear leather anymore!), faux fur, or those cute insulated ones that make you feel like a sexy snow bunny. Show off those toned arms and still keep warm. A fall staple indeed!

I am so excited to get me some of these essentials. I will totally post them ASAP, believe me. I'm also on the hunt for a killer winter coat that will make me look stylish and keep me warm when it's -20. But why do I even want to think about that now?

Until next time, fashion darlings! Mwa!

Fashion: A great way to unleash your creativity

So, I have some exciting news to share. I recently started working at Forever 21, and it's really been a ton of fun for me so far! It's a very affordable store that always gets new and unique pieces in, and still carries pretty much all the hot trends and essential basics. Honestly, helping people find something they feel great in and encouraging them to be creative is really satisfying. Even my own wardrobe has expanded with things I never would have liked to try before. Seeing things worked into outfits on mannequins and on my coworkers (all fashionistas not unlike myself!) makes me go, "Oh, that's cute. So why not try it?" Really, what do we have to lose by trying crazy looks? A bad fashion choice? Honey, if you don't take risks in fashion, you ain't a fashionista.

For example, I saw these over-the-knee socks in the reform school section. I always thought they looked very cute but they are so not my style. Then I'm like, why am I limiting myself to certain outfits and pieces just because it's "me"? Isn't life about being adventurous? Being on a budget, I went for some different accessories to start experimenting. Here is a pic of me rocking the socks (in purple and green, no less) with a black slouchy turtle neck dress (I wanted to keep my colour palette tame!).

I know the socks can be worked into all sorts of looks, so I'm excited to try some more stuff out with them.

Speaking of being creative with fashion, Halloween is coming, and this year I think I really want to flex my creative muscles instead of just being sexy. I would love to make my own costume. I have this idea of getting a cute red wig and being Rihanna. She's so sexy, I LOVE her style, and I already have tons of ideas for outfits I can even buy from work. Also, I can get very creative with this. Sounds good to me!! Here are some looks I want to try, clothing wise.

Colour blocking at it's finest

Sexy tribal print
Fierce and edgy RiRi! I just got that style of boot, too!!

PS I have made a resolution to update my blog more frequently. Keeping up with my recent realization that creativity is important in everyone's life, I've come to see that both writing and fashion promote the use of creativity. So, stay tuned!

This one's for the gents

A lot of my guy friends have informed me they'd be much more likely to read my blog if I wrote about men's fashion. Well, here it is, folks. What better way than to talk about the most stylish man I know, my "big brother" Asef.

I would describe his style as pulled together, tailored to a perfect fit, and masculine in a very glamorous way. Honestly, we love the same stores and styles pretty much, but his is the masculine version.

So this is a good look for a casual night at the movies. It's simple, but men often don't do casual quite right. V-necks are so sexy. This blue goes great with Asef's skin, and it matches the hat, which is always a nice touch he loves to add. Thong sandals dress down the look. Another nice little touch is the watch. I love it!

This outfit is great for a night out. LOL, well minus the heels...those are mine, we switched for a bit. So these jeans are the perfect fit: Not so loose that it looks like you're a gangster, and not so tight that you question if yours or his are tighter. The vest is so Asef. I don't know how to describe his style other than I'd wear it if I were a man. It's well put together, uses complimentary colours, and the little kick of confidence really make this outfit a great all-over look.

Now this is a hat I LOVE. Fedoras are honestly my best summer accessory. To rock one, you just gotta have a little confidence. Not to mention white on olive skin looks amazing. The hair is peeking out just enough under the rim to add a cool edgy touch. A small necklace compliments the v-neck as well. Love it!

Well, I hope you gentlemen learned a thing or two from my friend today. He's fab. :) In fact, making this post was so fun, I think I'm going to blog about my friends' styles more often now.

Take care fashionistas! xo

Workin' with summer hair

Ladies and gents alike have issues in the summer with keeping hair looking fresh. Trust me, having long hair is pretty darn difficult in the summer. If you want to spend hours making it look perfect, do it at night! It is way too hot and sticky during the day and it will frizz like crazy, no matter how much anti-frizz shit you load it up on.

Also, if you're like me, washing your hair and styling it every day is not possible due to life's craziness. Not to mention that would dry it out like crazy! Always have baby powder, revitalizer or dry shampoo and maybe a little dry volumizing powder (I recommend got2b) on hand for post-gym or post-crazy day hair changes. I've honestly gone out with 2 day old blowouts, turned into fab updos or concealed with hair accessories!

A cute scarf, a hat, a braid, a side pony, or some simple decorated bobby pins can totally make your day-or-two-old hair go from drab to fab.

Oh another note, summer can also be about fabulous down 'dos. Check out my old Hollywood look I did here. I just curled it with a big barrel iron and left the top pieces in rollers for a bit. Volumizer, hair spray, bam. Swept to one side.

Anyway, loves, I shall post some new looks soon. Take care now!

Bright colours are your friend! Embrace them for summer and fall!

I have recently gotten some really awesome coral pieces which add some much needed trendy colour to my summer and fall wardrobe. Here is a pic of me rocking some high-waisted burnt coral shorts. This is some denim on denim and colour blocking that I'm trying out, which I usually don't do! I remember looking at pictures of Rihanna wearing some awesome colour blocking outfits through the seasons and I was totally thinking about how to rock it. I shall keep tryin' this trend out and keep you posted.

I felt so '90s on this day. Hey, at least I didn't have the big hair goin' on, so it works, right? Yeah, I'm sticking to that, lol.

And here are some lovely red jeggings I got. They are so super tight that it takes some elaborate yoga poses to put them on. And if I eat a huge meal, I wouldn't be surprised if they burst open on me!! But yeah, I rocked 'em for the first time on a night out with my girls.

I am so excited to wear these come fall. They will def make my outfits pop. Yay, a reason not to be sad about summer's end: a new wardrobe to rock! I may even go for some more colours. Blue, purple, yellow...why the heck not?

Oh my gosh, and I just need to add that my girl Kim Kardashian rocks bright colours like no other. Check out this cute clutch... (and its coral, my fave ;))

Here she is rocking a neon dress with purple shoes. LOVE the colour combo, not nuts about the style of the dress, though.

Speaking of Kim, I just read her blog and realized we are sort of style soulmates. I need to dedicate a post about this next time lol.

Have a good night now fashionistas. Ta ta!

Oh my! So many fab summer trends

Hey there. It's been ages since I've written!! Okay, so here are some trends I'm lovin' at this minute.

1. Crochet

That's me, white girl on the left, in case it's not obvious, lol. So yes, this is one of my new trendy pieces. I've only worn it once on a night out, but I'm already thinking about different ways to wear this trend. You can totally wear this as a beach cover-up, on a casual day shopping, or on a date. You name it. I'll post some more pics next time I decide how to wear it. :)

2. Brown...anything
Michael Kors recently tweeted that brown is the new black. I read it and thought, Wow! My thoughts exactly! Brown is the way to go. Here are some of my favourite brown pieces.
Just got these today. :) Ah, gotta love cute booties.

Here is my wallet. This style has a specific name, but don't know what it is. It's ma baby.

Cute satchel (also got it today) with brown accents.

Straw tote with brown accents.

My mom's brown Nine West bag that I love to steal, lol.

3. Maxi dresses
Haven't I always said I love this trend? Well, in case I haven't, I do! Here's a cute floral frock I got from Forever 21 a few months ago. Oh, and my friend and I are showcasing our fab slippers as well.

4. Bows...grown-up ones
Ever since I saw a pic of Rihanna rocking an adorable polka dot scarf as a bow on her head (see below), I've been inspired by these cute and fun hair accents. Check mine out too, it's a headband with a cute little black bow.

5. Fishtail braids
Just learned how to do one. Oh yeah!

That's all for today, folks. New trends coming soon. Keep enjoying your fabulous and fashionable summer! xo

It's early July, what are you doing with your look?

Hello, loves. So I just wanted to make a post to update you on my new fashion ventures. Here are some looks I'm rocking these days.

First of all, oh how floral print has evolved over the years! It's always been trendy, I think, but it's everchanging. Here's Tiffany Thiessen rocking floral print shorts on Saved by the Bell, roughly 20 years ago...

And here's me and my girls rocking floral frocks this weekend!

I love how all our dresses are different styles and different prints but still rocking the same lovely trend.

I've also been experimenting with summer-friendly makeup. So I decided to invest in a good waterproof mascara, first of all...and I am slightly disappointed. I got the Sephora brand waterproof mascara, and it was a bitch to take off (like all waterproof mascara!), but it still gave me slight raccoon eyes! Although it went on evenly and looks good, it is not what I had hoped for. Also, I am totally not down for foundation these days. It's way too hot, and I've been breaking out like crazy! I use a scrub, toner and then a moisturizer every night and my skin is thanking me. I only wear translucent powder and bronzer during the day. At night, primer is a must! I am trying to embrace the natural texture of my hair in the summer. Translation: I'm breaking my addiction to volumizer. Not to mention it used to make me break out on my forehead. I think my hair will thank me. Here's a pic of me looking casual sans hair product...love it or hate it? Oh and I'm at Toronto Pride, hence the boa, lol.

OH and nail colour! Bright bright bright! Here are my pride nails...

Yellow, in all it's shades, is hot right now. I added a rainbow for my special occasion. And no, these are not real. Honesty I'm not a huge fan of long acrylic nails but I wanted to be super fabulous this weekend. Don't we all wanna feel that way sometimes?

That's what I've been up to. Now off to bed. Night night! xo

7 Deadly Fashion Sins

Oh honey, believe me, there are waaaay more than 7. But here are my biggest peeves at the moment.

1. White leggings
Okay, let me tell you why I think this is ALWAYS a sin on EVERYBODY. Because even Gisele Bundchen has cellulite. All humans do. If you show me one person without an ounce of cellulite, I will apologize profusely, but that person does not exist. White leggings show off every bump and dent in your legs and ass. And they enhance it. They don't look awful but in the right light they're just so unflattering it's not even funny. No one should own these!

2. Black (hiked up) socks and shorts
This is usually a male sin. And they're so challenged in many things, aren't they? I know I'm very mean. But really, how many decent looking men do you see in the summer hiking up their black socks with shorts? Not that you should wear hiked up socks in any colour! If these men have girlfriends, then they need to do their magic and recommend a great white ankle sock...

3. Showing your bra
This is so trashy. And avoidable with a simple purchase of a convertible bra... My biggest peeve when it comes to this sin is people who do a racerback top with a regular bra. Why do I hate it? Because it's soo avoidable! Get a frikkin connector thing! (Don't you love my terminology? I mean those things that hook the back of your bra together. Cheap and very easy.)

4. These ugly sandals...
People tell me I'm so mean to older and non-fashion-conscious people. Well, you know what? I don't feel remorseful. Because I've seen people 60 and up dressing fabulously yet age appropriate. Anyway, these exact sandals were what I had in mind when I googled "ugly sandals", and this picture came up, lol. Proves I'm not the only one. No one should own this monstrosity!

5. Not dressing for your body type
C'mon, this one's obvious. Honestly, not everything looks good on everyone, even on supermodels. Well, maybe them, but not for us humans. Now to the biggest extreme, I'm reffering to very overweight people who wear very revealing clothing. It's great you're confident, but you need to look somewhat respectable...I saw a 300 pound girl at Wal-Mart the other day wearing bum-bearing daisy dukes. No, honey. That is not cute.

6. Platform Flip-flops
Two words: Euro trash. Oh, and since this particular type of flip-flop got it's own spot on my list, I just wanna add that wearing flip-flops on inappropriate occasions is wrong as well!

7. (Adults wearing) T-shirts with cheesy slogans
Do you realize how many adults are going out wearing t-shirts that say "cutie", "babe", or "flirt" on them? Do you? Honestly (and I say this in a non-racist way), a lot of foreign ladies wear this because they don't know what it means or something and they got it for two bucks at a second hand store. It's true and you know it.

5 celebs I wish would take a freakin' risk

I'm so sick of seeing these celebs don the same looks, day after day and night after night. Switch it up, please!

1. Jennifer Aniston
All the Friends fans are probably angry at me right now, but yes, Jennifer, you are so boring! Since you've become a star we've pretty much seen the same thing every single time: sleek hair, simple dresses, and solid coloured pumps. I'm yawning and I'm falling asleep. Ever heard of taking a risk, even for one measly time? You're too comfortable in that feel-good style, Jen. Some variety would be nice.

2. Taylor Swift
Not falling too far behind Aniston is Ms. Swift. What scares me is that Taylor is younger and much newer in the scene, and yet she's still doing the same look over and over again. Big curls, red lips, sparkly dress. Those all sound sexy and exciting, and they are, but only when you do it once in a blue moon. Ohh, and how wonderful she looked at the American Music Awards with straight hair! What a tease.

3. Mandy Moore
She's sweet, beautiful and has a clean and sleek style. Great, let's see you try something else, Mandy! She's never on Worst Dressed, but I seldom see her in Best Dressed either...yawn.

4. Kristen Bell
She's so cute, but a Google search of her name will yield you and a whole lotta the same hairstyle and a whole lotta neutrals. I'd love to see her try some rockerish smokey eyes, don a pair of statement pumps in a crazy pattern, or surprise us with a crazy updo!

5. Renee Zellweger
Hmm, I don't know...I think there's a fine line between having a signature style and just being a Plain Jane. I always see Renee wearing dresses to events...I'd like to see a well tailored pants suit once in a while. And I feel like she's dressing too old for her age, by Hollywood standards, anyway. She's what, younger than 40? C'mon, some celebs are over 50 and wearing more daring and youthful outfits. You got the body, Renee. Take some risks!
